We flew in from Valencia, our friends from London, and kicked off the weekend with lunch at Restaurant L’Ange 20 on a sunny April afternoon. It’s a small, rustic spot in the Marais with friendly service and great seasonal cooking.
We ordered the slow-cooked pork with apricots, served with buttery mash and green beans – rich, tender, and full of flavour. The duck breast with honey and thyme sauce was another favourite, paired with sweet potato mash. A few bottles of Brouilly (a light, fruity red from Beaujolais) went down far too easily – served, as it should be, perfectly chilled! We finished with the Café Gourmand, which was a total surprise and absolutely brilliant – a strong espresso served with a selection of mini desserts we didn’t expect to love quite so much.
Easygoing, delicious, and well-priced – book ahead, especially for lunch.

This is the kind of place you come to when you want something classic and comforting done properly. We came in for lunch and ordered the French onion soup to start – rich, cheesy, and exactly what you want it to be.
The boeuf bourguignon here is the real star. If you’re after a proper version of this dish – especially when the weather’s cold – this is the place. The beef is tender without being overdone, and the wine sauce is deep, rich, and full of flavour. It’s the kind of plate that makes you want to take your time and soak up every bit.
Sure, it gets tourists – but so does every good spot in the Marais. What matters is the food is solid, the portions generous, and the atmosphere warm and unpretentious. Don’t miss out on this one!

💡 Travel Gentlemen Recommendations
We stumbled across Les Petites Bouchées while walking through the Marais one afternoon. It’s a warm, friendly little spot with a cool, laid-back energy.
The concept is simple and surprisingly refreshing for Paris: you pick three small plates for a set price, mixing and matching whatever you like. It’s ideal if you want to try a bit of everything without rolling home afterwards – and it leaves just enough room for dessert!
Highlights from our table? The beetroot-and-cream-cheese millefeuille was beautifully layered and fresh, while the beef tataki had just the right amount of zing. The black pudding was rich and earthy, and the mini beef-and-cheddar burger came with a sauce that made us want to order another round. And the desserts? Tiny, delicious, and very worth it. Enjoy!

Frequented by artists, philosophers, and literary icons for over a century – including Picasso, Hemingway, and Jean-Paul Sartre – it’s a place that oozes old-school glamour. The drinks list is extensive, with everything from fresh juices and herbal teas to fine wines and apéritifs.
💡 Travel Gentlemen Recommendations
It might be iconic, but Café de Flore still delivers. Yes, it’s busy and yes, it’s on the pricier side – but it’s also timeless, charming, and genuinely enjoyable if you lean into the experience.
We grabbed a pavement table for a slow afternoon people-watching session and ordered a Croque Madame and the Flore Club Sandwich, both served with crisp little side salads. We kicked things off with a glass of Champagne – light, celebratory, and exactly the kind of touch that makes a simple lunch feel special – and rounded things off with a strong espresso to reset and refocus before wandering off again. A Parisian cliché? Maybe – but it is certainly a delicious one!
Before we left, we popped into the Café de Flore boutique and picked up two tasses à café and a pot canette moyen. Now, whenever we want, we can sit out on our own terrace with a café noisette and feel like we’re right back in Saint-Germain!
Cost
Café de Flore is best suited to the Fair Fellow or Quintessential Gentleman. Light meals like croques and quiches range from €12 – €20, mains from €25 – €35, and drinks from €5 – €15. Expect to spend €35 – €60 per person, depending on your order.
