Welcome to Calpe

Located on Spain’s stunning Costa Blanca, Calpe (or Calp) is a charming coastal town in the province of Alicante. Known for its blend of historical sites, beautiful beaches, and natural wonders, this destination attracts visitors looking for both relaxation and adventure. Dominated by the iconic Peñón de Ifach (Calpe Rock), a towering limestone rock that rises 332 metres (over 1,000 feet) above the sea, Calpe boasts a mix of traditional Spanish charm and modern tourism appeal. With a warm Mediterranean climate and a picturesque coastline, it’s the perfect place for a scenic walking tour any time of the year.

Cala Manzanera & Muralla Roja

Our walking tour begins at Cala Manzanera, a small but stunning cove known for its rugged beauty and crystal-clear waters. What makes this spot even more special is its proximity to the Muralla Roja, an architectural masterpiece designed by the visionary Ricardo Bofill. This bold, red-pink apartment complex, with its maze-like structure and geometric design, stands in striking contrast to the surrounding natural landscape. While the building is private property, you can book an apartment on Airbnb. Its distinctive exterior makes for an unmissable photo opportunity. Muralla Roja is simply stunning and well worth a stay. Check out our other blog which features Muralla Rojo in more detail.

Playa Arenal-Bol

Continuing along the coast, we arrive at Playa Arenal-Bol, one of Calpe’s most famous beaches. Stretching for over one kilometre (over half an mile), this golden sandy beach is framed by turquoise waters, creating a postcard-perfect setting. Even in winter, you’ll see locals and visitors alike enjoying the soft sand and gentle waves. In the summer, the beach is buzzing with energy and life.

Flanked by a lively promenade, Playa Arenal-Bol offers plenty of spots to grab a coffee or a snack while enjoying the stunning sea views. Whether you’re taking a break or simply strolling along the shore, this beach perfectly captures the essence of Calpe’s coastal charm.

Paseo Maritimo

As we make our way along the bustling Paseo Marítimo, Calpe’s scenic seafront promenade, we come across one of the town’s most famous photo spots: the #CALPE sign. Set against the backdrop of the sea and the towering Peñón de Ifach, this colourful sign is a must-visit for travellers looking to snap and share with friends and family.

The Paseo Marítimo is a family-friendly spot for those looking to enjoy a relaxed day by the sea. This beautiful promenade stretches along the coastline, offering easy access to sandy beaches where children can build sandcastles or have fun on playground slides. With plenty of open space, cafés, and seating areas, it’s the perfect place to take in the views while letting little ones play safely.

Playa Cantal-Roig

Our final stop is the Playa Cantal-Roig, a peaceful beach located near Calpe’s fishing port. Less crowded than its neighbouring beaches, this spot is perfect for unwinding and soaking in the breathtaking views. The nearby port is also home to some of Calpe’s best seafood restaurants, making it an excellent place to end the walk with a delicious meal of fresh fish and local delicacies.
