We love Denia for its perfect mix of history, beach vibes, and friendly local culture. Located on Spain’s Costa Blanca, Denia offers something special for every type of traveler. Imagine a place where medieval castles meet sandy beaches, and small tapas bars offer some of the best seafood around!

Here’s what we adore most about Denia:

  • Rich History: Denia Castle is a must-see. With its impressive ruins and sweeping views over the Mediterranean, it’s a great place to soak up Denia’s past.
  • Mediterranean Charm: The marina is packed with life! Picture strolling along the waterfront, watching the boats, and stopping at a café for a quick coffee or glass of wine.
  • Festive Spirit: Denia really comes alive in the summer with its vibrant festivals, where locals and visitors gather for parades, fireworks, and lively celebrations.

If you’re wondering what to do in Denia, here are our top picks:

1. Denia Castle (Castillo de Denia)
No visit is complete without a stop at Denia Castle! This ancient fortress offers not only fantastic views but also a little trip back in time. We recommend heading here in the morning to avoid the crowds and catch the best light for photos.

Les Marines is one of our favourite beaches in Denia, with soft golden sand and calm waters. It’s a perfect spot to relax, swim, or try some of the local seafood at nearby restaurants.

How to Get to Denia

Getting to Denia is easier than you might think, with options to suit every type of traveller. For our journey, we took an ALSA bus directly from the Joaquín Sorolla Train Station in Valencia to Denia. The ride took about 1 hour and 30 minutes, giving us time to relax and enjoy the Spanish countryside along the way. Here’s how you can get there too:

  • By Plane: The closest airports are Alicante-Elche Airport (90 km) and Valencia Airport (100 km). From there, buses and car rentals are available to bring you straight to Denia.
  • By Train: While Denia doesn’t have its own train station, nearby cities like Gandia and Alicante connect you to the national rail system, where you can take a bus or taxi to Denia.
  • By Bus: Buses from Valencia, Alicante, and other towns along the Costa Blanca make it simple and affordable to get here.
  • By Car: For those who prefer to drive, the AP-7 motorway along the coast is both scenic and convenient.

Billy’s guides highlight where to eat, where to stay, and how to discover the best parts of a city with ease and confidence. His favourite city to travel to is New York, iconic while being edgy and creative in the right neighbourhoods. For beaches, nothing beats Palawan with its turquoise water, fine white sand, and breathtaking island scenery. Billy’s favourite food is Vietnamese — fresh, flavourful, and the perfect balance of herbs, spice, and comfort, especially a spring roll wrapped in fresh lettuce and dipped in nuoc cham. His go-to drink is a Brockmans Gin and Tonic, smooth and berry infused, and always the first thing he orders when exploring a new bar, if it’s available at all as it’s still somewhat undiscovered. Billy’s best travel tip is simple: stay, eat, and enjoy what the locals do, as it’s the easiest way to understand any city. His travel style tip is to pack neutral basics you can mix and match, and for autumn or winter city trips he swears by wearing all black.
